I dreamed that I was working in a jewellery store like the one that I used to work in. We were understaffed and the store was very busy. It was also a clothing store like the clothing store I used to work in. Somehow, it was also a restaurant, but I didn’t work in the restaurant part. There was a man who worked there who was a very talented chef, but he was volatile and difficult, and he would behave radically and show up at odd times, he’d often be late or he’d take long cigarette breaks. At a certain point, he broke a mirror. He needed some help plating a dish for a group of dignitaries or something, they were people of note, and it was a big complicated dish that was served on a wooden board. He asked me to help him carry it to the table where they were sitting outside. There was a garnish I didn’t recognize and looked odd, but I didn’t say anything. Once it was placed on the table, the garnish I had noticed flipped over and so did the many others on the plate – they were live dung beetles, but they had bright orange stripes on their backs. Everyone was disgusted and upset, and the customers left and said they were going to spread the word around about how bad an experience they had. Even though we were understaffed, I had to send the chef home, I think I was some kind of a manager, but I don’t think I had the authority to fire him, even though I might have been told to? I went back to helping customers and everyone was cranky and difficult. I was trying to understand that we were shortstaffed and we were doing our best, but they were not understanding about it.
